About Donna Bahorich

I am greatly honored and deeply humbled that Gov. Greg Abbott chose me to lead the State Board of Education. I look forward to building the greatest schools in the world here in Texas, and to working with the SBOE and other stakeholders to create a top-tier education system that works for all Texans.

As a mother who home-schooled her children until high school classes began, I understand the importance of diverse approaches to education so that families have the chance to decide what is best for their children. Above all, I am an education advocate who recognizes and respects the importance of a strong public education system where 88% of our students across the country receive their education. It is without question that these students will largely determine the future of Texas and the country.

I am open and ready to work with my fellow board members to improve our schools by finding ways to better support our teachers’ efforts on the front lines, developing a compelling long-range plan for education, engaging with legislators, educators, parents and business leaders on a listening tour around the state to hear concerns and solicit ideas to be included in the long-range plan, including increasing our effectiveness with technology. I will need the help of everyone who cares about our schools to reach our goal of building a strong, vibrant and competitive Texas education system.  Together, we can have great schools for all Texas children.
